Bio:
The man was happy. Not because he was overloaded with wealth and prestige. No, in fact, this particular man was very poor and lived in poverty. He didn’t have the land of a rich merchant, nor the wealth of a noble. He had nothing but his small hut and his wife. They were expecting a baby soon. He had everything in the world he ever wanted. He was happy. As the pregnancy matured, and the day that their baby would arrive drew nigh, the man’s wife became ill. She slowly got weaker and weaker as the days progressed. The day came that she was hanging laundry on a line to dry, when suddenly, she went into labor. She cried for the man. He came running and dragged her to the nearest shaded area. She was so weak she could barely hold her head aloft. The man held her and helped her as the midwife arrived to help with the delivery. She gave birth to a beautiful baby girl with eyes the most vivid shade of emerald you could find, just like her mother’s. The midwife placed her into her mother’s arms. She looked into those eyes and began to cry. She said to her, “My child, I love you and I wish that I could stay here with you, but I fear that I can not.” The man began weeping as he held his wife and child. The mother continued, “I will always be here with you though.” She slipped her necklace off and slide it over the baby’s head. With tears streaming down her face, she turned to the man and said her final words, “I love you,” and with those words, she took her final breath. The man cried out with a cry that only someone with a heart that has been shattered could make. The man was no longer happy.
Days passed into months. Two years passed. The man was no longer happy. Everytime he looked at his baby girl he felt deep sorrow for the wife he lost. The midwife had stayed with the man as much as she could to help him care for the little girl. She began to worry that the man would never recover from his loss. She was correct. The man began to feel anger at the daughter. He blamed her for her mother’s death. He no longer could stand the sight of her. He wanted her gone. The midwife saw this. She suggested to the man that he give the daughter to the Benevolent Order of the Stone Mages. The daughter would be taken care of and taught the ways of the Order, and she would be out of sight of the man. He agreed. The midwife took her to the head of the Order, Elias H. Lightlifter, and he welcomed the child with welcome arms.
Months passed into years. Sixteen years passed. The child was raised in the Order of the Stone Mages. She was taught all the practices of the Order and was one of the most brilliant and accomplished students. But, She was not happy. She had heard of the adventures of the Skypirates and wished to be one of them. She did not enjoy the life of secrecy and ritualistic lifestyle of the Mages. She wanted to be free to do what she wanted, when she wanted. She was not happy. She finally decided to be free of the Order on the night of her eighteen birthday. She ran away. She never looked back. She ran until she felt she could no longer walk. All she had were her clothes on her back, a pack with only a notebook and a few alchemic reagents, and a necklace around her neck that she received from a mother she never knew. She was so tired. She looked ahead and saw a sign for a Stone Mage looking for an experienced apprentice. She gulped hard. It wasn’t what she wanted to do, but, if she was to run away, then she would need a source of income for a few months. She walked in to see the owner of the shop arguing with a man who looked like he just got blown over by a tornado. “How dare you charge these prices! These things ain’t even worth half that price!” The man with the wild hair was yelling at the owner. The owner turned to regard the young girl. The owner asked what she wanted. “I noticed your sign looking for an experienced apprentice, and I am looking for a job,” She stated nervously and quietly while shuffling her feet in the dust on the floor. “I have experience and was top in all of my classes in the Order. And I fear this man is right. Floater stones don’t cost but a tenth of what you are charging.” The windblown man looks her square in the eye. “Can you make Floaters girl? For that cheap?” He asks. She replies with a gulp, "Yes, sir." He looks at her with a serious face as he says," I'll offer ya a job. You would probably get screwed over if ya work with him. And... I can offer ya something he cant... Freedom... Freedom of the skies. Ya see little lady, I have a mighty big project on my hands and I could use a good mage. Whad'ya say girl?" She seems to think about it for a moment, but inside she is thinking "This is my chance! My chance to be free." She holds out her hand and says, "I will take the job." He shakes her hand as the owner of the store yells at them to get out of his store, that he doesnt want no dirty no good skypirates in his store anyways. They walk out and the wild-haired man says to her, "Btw the way, my name is Soles Leafwright. What do they call you?" She thinks for a moment, "Well, my name is Ihexia Rihdan. But you can call me Hex. If you want... I mean that is what I would like to be called. I mean Ihexia is such a proper sounding name, but Hex, Oh Hex sounds like such a cool Skyrate name dont you think?" He could tell she was bubbling over with excitement. He chuckled at her and smiled, "Alright then Hex, let's head back to the shop and get you settled in." He leads her towards a ship with a menagerie of decals and images painted on the sides. He climbs in and she hesitates before getting in the ship, thinking that maybe life on the outside isn't so bad. She stepped into the ship and the hatch shut behind her. She was starting to think she may be happy.
2 years have passed, the girl is still helping the windblown man. She learned that he was not a skypirate as she had hoped, but she stayed on with the man, after all, He paid well. He gave her a place to live, a decent amount of money, and a small area of his shop as her own, which she quickly hung up blankets to shield her workspace from prying eyes. He became her family. I am that girl, and I am finally happy.
